Good Holiday But StillĀ  No Relief From The Drought

The family went cruising and it was a fantastic experience. Everything you wanted was there, entertainment, pools, laze in the sun or watch a movie on the deck chairs, food mountains of beautiful food, service that was top grade, it is the most relaxing way to have a holiday. For me I got to spend time with my beautiful family and also catch up with my sister Joanne's kids, and a very special new addition, Ariah, Stacey and Steve beautiful daughter.

After the cruise we settled back into Spring Plains were my daughter Becky had done wonderful job of caretaking and looking after my beautiful dogs. Santa found the kids like normal and the water fight was enjoyed by us all. With temps up to 47 over 3 weeks our thought were quickly back on survival. Rain again fell with not much hitting us so we got busy getting the water tank in  action, moving cattle off the last boggy dams and constantly watching the stock. Our visitors left  and it was back to work. For me that work meant my dogs who have enjoyed over a month off with just a little bit of mustering to break the boredom.

Georgie's pups left us in December except Raine who we are keeping. Georgie was a fantastic mum and we are already getting plenty of positive feedback on this mating. Raine was joined very quickly by a special boy I bought from Craiglea working dogs, Craiglea Pilot is from a bitch I have always liked Munns Grace, she has been a fantastic working dog for Jamie. The sire Blackbrook Sweep is a full UK dog owned by Bauers working BC, and what I have heard about this dog's ability made me very keen on a pup. Pilot is a gem and didn't disappoint in any way. He has had 2 looks at the sheep at a tender age of 12weeks and he showed  plenty of keenness and also a fair bit of maturity.  I just love his personality. Talking pups Bonnie Lass is having her 2nd litter to Ace, this mating turned out such brilliant pups we needed to do it again. The litter is already fully booked out which gives us a feeling that we are achieving something with our breeding program and turning out some very handy pups. Go Kadens Collies!

Now I guess I can't finish a blog without  a mention of Ace, wouldn't be right. He is back in training and today Jack and Ace were in charge of settling the training sheep with long walks so the puppies had quiet sheep. What can I say about these 2 males the worked beautifully and did a fantastic job, Even Jack handle them with care. Very pleased with both of them. Angel, Georgie, Faith and Karma all had run this morning and all going well. Georgie and Faith will have their first runs on the trial grounds this year but Karma will have to wait a while. Although she can do the course she is young and has much to learn in the paddock first. I also have a big white and Black Bitch who has never been trained and needs pulling into gear. We are having fun, she loves to go to sheep uninvited, loves chasing them, refuses to come off when call, looks like my days want be boring!!!!

Trialling in QLD has had a few issues in the past, to me it always comes back to the committee and mainly the President to hold it together and also address all problems correctly and quickly so things don't blow out.  It is a hard job and one needs to think before putting up your hand. I have in the past held such positions so I know it isn't easy.  Although we all say we do it for the enjoyment every-one still likes rules to be followed and the playing field fair to all. At my age and with a greater desire to breed workers not trial dogs I am happy to just plod along and have some fun but I still like to see harmony between handlers. Fingers crossed  this year  the new committee manage to get it all back on track and lets hope we can start a fresh in 2014, for me I have found so many friends with this sports, Friends I want to keep for a lifetime.

Next blog will be after my trip away to do a few trials, the camper is nearly ready and I am looking forward to catching up on a few special people on the way. Wish me luck and lets hope I can report a fantastic wet season has finally come when I get back, wouldn't that be nice!!

Take Care
